Hello ,
The book is launched! I am in recovery mode. Due to covid it has been a long time since I presented in public, and it was not exactly like riding a bike.
But it was tons of fun and many friends turned out to support me! Always a good feeling when they have to quickly drag out chairs to set up an extra row.
Here's one highlight from the evening:
A man in the audience shared that he'd been hearing about Catherine Leroy all his life. Which is rare! Most of us never heard of her until recently.
David Moore's father was a pilot in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. On February 22, 1967, he was at the controls of a C-130 Hercules flying paratroopers to their drop zone. It was Operation Junction City, the only US parachute operation of the Vietnam War.
Catherine was aboard his plane, the only woman and the only civilian photojournalist to jump that day...into a Vietnam combat zone and Moore family lore.
These types of connections are among the most memorable and heartwarming moments of an event! It was a great joy to talk about Catherine after these several years working on the book and waiting for it to be published.
Below are a couple photos from the book launch at Auntie's Bookstore in Spokane.
