This also seemed a good time to brag about my daughter. At the beginning of the year she took up roller derby.
This past week was her first bout as a member of the Rising Stars of Angel City Derby. It was for real. People bought tickets. ;)
The red star you barely see on the side of her helmet identifies her as the jammer for the current two-minute time period on the track. The jammer scores points for the team. I am so proud of her!
On the Rising Stars the skaters take turns as blockers, jammer and a position called pivot, which I think means you can turn into a jammer under certain circumstances.
